Beware of Caller ID Spoofing

Some members have made us aware they are receiving counterfeit text messages from 808.517.5648, pretending to be a fraud alert. Once a reply is received via text message, members are advised they would receive a phone call. Northern’s 315.782.0155 phone number is being masked or spoofed when these fraudulent phone calls are received.

Caller ID spoofing is a term used when scammers deliberately falsify the information transmitted to your caller ID display to disguise their identity. These fake calls/texts are asking members to verify account information. Please keep in mind, that when a Northern team member reaches out to you, we won’t ask you to verify any of the following over the phone:

  • Your full account (member) number or social security number.
  • Your debit card number or CVV number.
  • Or any Online or Mobile Banking passwords.

Unfortunately, scammers are able to mask their phone numbers with those from legitimate businesses. Please be especially vigilant if you’re not expecting a phone call from a team member at Northern.

If you have someone reach out to you from 315.782.0155 or 808.517.5648 claiming to be from Northern Credit Union or a fraud alert and asking that you verify your full account (member) number, debit/credit card number or social security number, please do not respond via text or hang up and give us a call directly at 315.782.0155. Please be especially vigilant if you’re not expecting a phone call from a team member at Northern. We’ll verify whether the call was legitimate or fraudulent and assist you.
