Due to the recent uptick of COVID-19 cases in our communities (particularly in the Clayton area), Northern is re-instituting 50% maximum capacity limits for our Jefferson County relationship centers effective Tuesday, July 20.
We’re taking these precautions to protect our member-owners, internal-owners and the community as whole. We continue to encourage you to use digital services whenever possible.
If the relationship center is at capacity, we’ll reserve your spot in line, invite you to wait in your vehicle, and come get you when you can enter the relationship center. Appointments aren’t required but are still encouraged due to new capacity limits. In order to maintain social distancing, select services such as account openings and loan applications will be completed via smart office.
For the health and well-being of our member-owners and internal-owner team members, the following is the maximum number of people (members and internal owners) permitted inside each relationship center at one time.

Adams: 6
Carthage: 4
Commerce: 8
LeRay: 6
Factory: Closed
Croghan, Lowville and Gouverneur do not have any capacity limitations at the current time, but that could potentially change as we monitor the recent increase of COVID-19 cases in our communities.
Phase three re-opening details:
Phase three re-opening began Monday, July 13, 2020, with new phone and Personal Teller hours and the reopening of our Massena and West Carthage Relationship Centers.
During phase three we encourage you to continue to use digital services whenever possible for convenience and to protect yourselves and our internal-owner employees. Appointments aren’t required but are still encouraged for your convenience.
To further protect our internal-owners and members most relationship center transaction areas will be closed except to complete transactions that can’t be done at a Personal Teller or ATM. Please see the chart below for a full list of services and how you can connect with us.
Team members will be available at Personal Tellers to assist with most common transactions including withdrawals up to $10,000 per day, check-cashing with immediate access to payroll checks, share-to-share transfers, loan payments, and more.
Lenders and other team members are available by calling or texting 315.782.0155, Live Chat, or Video Banking to assist with loans, new account opening, mortgages, and other needs during the following hours:
- Monday-Thursday: 8:30am-5pm
- Friday: 8:30am-5:30pm
- Saturday: 9am-12pm

To protect you and our internal-owner employees, these safety measures will remain in place during Phase Three:
Face coverings and personal protection:
– Masks are required when entering any relationship center in accordance with NYS law. If you don’t have a mask, a team member will give one to you to use and keep.
– If you’re uncomfortable wearing a mask, we ask that you use a Personal Teller, Video Banking, or other Bank@Home options to complete your transaction. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation to protect and respect.
Hand sanitizer:
– Hand sanitizer will be available at the entrance of each relationship center and next to all lobby Personal Tellers and ATMs for your use before and after each transaction.
Social distancing:
– To help maintain appropriate social distancing, we ask that you use the social distancing decals on the floor when waiting in line.
Team member wellness:
– Wellness is our priority! Before coming to work, team members are required to report if they or a member of their household isn’t feeling well to discuss whether they should seek advice from a healthcare provider.
Increased sanitation and other measures:
– Our cleaning company will disinfect surfaces in each relationship center nightly.
– Team members will wipe down shared surfaces like tablets, keypads, touch screens, desks, and doorknobs frequently throughout the day.
– Inside Personal Tellers and ATMs will be wiped down after each use.
– At this time, refreshment stations at each relationship center will remain closed.
